Friends,
Design Patterns
We are intellectually aware that design influences our behavior. But these videos (and this channel) is like one of those invisible ink decoder pens uncovering what’s underneath. There are so many amazing innovations underneath the tech we use each day whose magic is we don’t even notice them.
Enrico dives into the “tricks and lies” in the tech we see. One blown mind moment after another. I just love channels like this:
Flip 7
Yinh came home with this game a few days ago and it’s an immediate hit at home. It’s in the “push your luck” genre (like blackjack or for tabletop game fans the classic Can’t Stop).
If you are a dork, you will notice ways to spice up Flip 7 by trading options on various dimensions of the game.
Math Academy Progress
I sent this tweet Monday when my 7th grader wrapped the Math Academy course he’s been working on since the start of the school year:
A little shout out for @_MathAcademy_ and @justinskycak. My 7th grader is an enthusiastic user. He does about 55 xp per day and just got promoted to his next course.
His recent math MAP score was 99.8% (according to Gemini). He fully acknowledges MA in his rising %tiles”
My 4th grader is also a big user (averages 42 xp/day) and on target to finish the 5th-grade course soon. With him, I can see the improvement in his numeracy day to day and assume it’s happening faster than otherwise bc of MA. Keep doing what you’re doing over there!”
I shared Justin’s response with the boys for external encouragement:
“Wow! Kudos to him for putting in the work each day, and congrats on the course promotion and phenomenal MAP score! Please let both him & his little bro know that all of us at MA are proud of them and can’t wait to hear more about where their math upskilling journeys take them 😊
Seriously, Math Academy has really found a groove in them. One of the moms of my 4th grader’s friends texted us because her kid said that Max is always so fast at math in the class and that “he does something at home”. Now that kid is doing MA.
I hope he likes it or that backfired pretty bad.
Stay groovy
