What’s the alternative - home schooling in the old way (tutors and travel)? Worth considering imho and a lot more possible today than for the last 50-100yrs. But it’s hard to opt out of the system in a conscious way if you are resource constrained.

Some other random thoughts:

Parallels in the architecture/ layout between large schools and prisons

Institutionalised personalities - factory / taylorisation / assembly line of work and people.

Is consulting / finance / medicine = winning in life? Idk!

super hard to opt out...i'm just trying to make the point that the system is insufficient so if you care you need to be hand-on in rounding out the lessons you want them to have. you can get a false sense that your outsourcing education to school but what they get there can be pretty narrow. praying for good teachers though is probably worth an incantation. a great teacher is priceless

Teachers don't only exist in schools tho..

Would also add anecdotes around the vastly different social dynamics of trad school vs home school groups - worth checking out if you can compare in a playground or activity based setting. Was an eye opener to me.

Re-read this sentence several times: “Thinking of it as an unfinished unending hopefully upwardly ascending sort of cascade.”

Kinda sums up a whole lot of life right there.
